Explorers and Navigators 3-Day Program for 4 through 7-year-olds. The Explorers and Navigator Kinder Programs are geared for children who are four years old by September 1st and meet every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 to 11:45 am.
The children are encouraged to explore their environment and develop social skills. The children learn their ABCs, numbers, days of the week, and other concepts to be prepared for Kindergarten and First grade by the end of the school year. Parents model good communication skills with their children.
Regularly, the children also participate in hands-on art, science, and cooking projects that generally fit a weekly theme. Field Trips are planned by the parents throughout the year. Parents attend parent education on their work days, 11:30 to 1:00 pm while other member parents watch the children.

Doodlebugs and Sprouts / 2-Day Program for 2 and 3-year-olds The Doodlebugs and Sprouts Program is geared for children who are two and three years old by September 1st and meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 11:45 am.

Regularly, the children also participate in hands-on art, science, and cooking projects that generally fit a weekly theme. Parents attend parent education on their workday from 11:30 to 1:00 pm while other member parents watch their children.
General Purposes of Parent Education
To provide information on all areas of child development, to help parents use positive discipline and guidance techniques, to increase parent-child communication, to teach parents how to work with groups of children, to promote awareness of individual differences and needs, to offer parents greater self-awareness, to help parents develop a parenting style congruent with their values and the individual needs of their children, to develop positive family relationships, to increase awareness of professional and community resources.

Some of the requirements at HTHPIP are:

Approximately once a month (on a non-workday) supervise children as a “lunch duty” parent while others attend parent education.

3 / What is the history of the parent participation movement?
In 1915, faculty wives at the University of Chicago started the first parent-participation nursery school. They wanted to provide a social experience for their children and parent education for themselves. The first parent-participation nursery school in California was organized in 1929 in Berkeley and is still in operation today.
